Expectant Look

Expectant Look

Definition: A non-verbal signal given to a child to indicate a response is expected.

Definition taken from Sherri Fickenscher & Dan Salvucci

Chapter 7 – Listening And Spoken Language Strategies

EXAMPLE:

(Hungry Hungry Caterpillar)

Therapist: "On Monday, he ate one apple. But he was....(look expectantly at child)

Child: "stiiiiilllll hungry!"

Explanation:

Similar to auditory closure, you use your body language to let the child know that a response is wanted from them, sometimes you can just use your eyes but sometimes you might have to use a hand gesture! It all depends on what level your kiddo is at and how well they understand this expectation and look for it to be used.
