Model Language

Definition: An adult speaks clearly at all times, uses the grammar, and gives appropriate and meaningful language in context Definition taken from Sherri Fickenscher & Dan Salvucci

Chapter 7 – Listening And Spoken Language Strategies

EXAMPLE:

"How are you feeling today?"(instead of howre' ya feelin)

"Do you want to play with the play dough?" (instead of do ya wanna)

"Please go to the blue spot on the carpet" (instead of go-to-thu, on-thu)

Explanation:

This is simply imporatnt becasue you are trying to give the child access to perfect language. We need them to be learning the propper way to annunciate words, and if they are hearing them incorrectly, they will produce them incorrectly! Think of when kids say the alphabet and they get to L, M, N, O, P. Because they all hear it as ELEMENOP, it because just one giant letter! Thats just a simple example of a way that we effect a childs speech production when they dont have a perfect langauge model! Remember, muddy in, muddy out!
