Self-Talk
Definition: An adult talks to the child about what the adult sees, does, or hears at any particular moment in time. Definition taken from Sherri Fickenscher & Dan Salvucci
Chapter 7 – Listening And Spoken Language Strategies
EXAMPLE:
"I see a cow!" "I hear the door bell! Who is at the door?" "I dropped the book! BANG! I heard it it the floor"
Explanation:
This is very similar to parallel talk but instead of talking about what you both are doing, you are talking strictly about what you are doing. Verbalizing your every move, thought and notice to sound. This helps to create that basis for being aware of the world around us. It models that language for things in the home/daycare/restaurant etc. points out environmental sounds, and creates an awareness that everything has a name and a purpose.
